In the last issue of Tea & Coffee Asia, we mistakenly cited the auction price of Darjeeling tea sold at auction as US$0.23/kg in a news item, attributing the source of the information as the Tea Board of India.
This information is entirely incorrect. The item should have identified a rise of US$0.23 in prices paid for Darjeeling tea at auction. Darjeeling tea typically fetches from between US$3.70 to over US$9.00 per kg at auction, depending on quality. And the reference to the Tea Board of India was misplaced.
Our former copywriter also made a similar error referring to Assam tea prices in the same issue, saying prices “climbed to US$0.21 to US$0.32” instead of “climbed by US$0.21 to US$0.32,
Our thanks to readers who pointed out this error and our apologies to the Tea Board and to Darjeeling and Assam planters and traders for failing to spot the mistake during final proof reading.
